Ice day for a climb – daredevils scale frozen crane 1,241ft high

Russian Daredevils

DAREDEVILS risked a frosty end when they climbed a 1,241ft skyscraper covered in ice.

The team surrounding climber Vitaliy Raskalov reached the top of a construction crane on the building after evading violent guards, cameras and sub-zero temperatures.
To pull off the stunt Vitaliy and his companions had to map out the security system to find a way past it and hide from construction workers, who he says will “beat you up really badly” if they catch you.

The thrill-seeker, from Moscow, Russia, said: “There is no legal way for regular guys to get upstairs.”
The building he and his four team members are climbing is called Mercury City – a skyscraper set to be Europe’s tallest building once it is finished.

After observing the site for weeks, the group sneaked inside the building dressed as workers — climbing 75 flights of stairs while hiding behind corners to avoid security patrols.
They then hiked another 104ft into the air when they scaled the iced-over crane at the top while the workers had a shift handover at mid-day.

Using handheld cameras, the troupe film their stunt on the frozen crane before leaving their trademark lightning-shaped stickers.
