Justin Bieber ordered to apologise over Manny Pacquiao pictures

Justin Bieber

JUSTIN Bieber has come under fire from politicians in the Philippines after he mocked Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao online.

Following Pacquiao's knockout bout with Juan Manuel Marquez earlier this month, the Baby star uploaded two Photoshopped snaps of the fighter on the floor of the boxing ring.
One had The Lion King character Simba standing over Pacquiao alongside the caption: "Dad wake up", while another mock-up had Michael Jackson in his famous leaning pose from the Smooth Criminal video, mirroring Pacquiao just before he hit the floor.

The snaps have outraged Filipino politicians, who threatened to make Justin a "persona non grata" in the country unless he apologises for his "distasteful comments".

The statement from seven members of the Philippines Congress adds: "Mr Bieber should have known that the Hon. Pacquiao has reached his stature as such as a result of sheer hard work, determination and firm belief in God, and despite (sic) such stature best exemplifies humility and grace even in defeat."

Claire Danes welcomes new arrival to her Homeland

Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy

CLAIRE Danes and husband Hugh Dancy have taken delivery of a special Christmas gift – a baby boy.

The Homeland star gave birth to their first child – Cyrus Michael Christopher Dancy – on Monday.
She married British actor Hugh, 37, in France in 2009 after meeting hime on the Rhode Island set of the movie Evening.
The 33-year-old actress said the couple were now looking forward to “getting to know our new Dancy” over the Christmas break.
In a recent interview she said they were ‘excited’ about the new member of the family.
She said: “There’s no way of anticipating what that’s going to mean for us but we are very excited.
“We are going to love this person, I know that.”
The happy news comes in the midst of an amazing month for Claire – last week she was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award and a Golden Globe for her performance on the hit U.S. show last week.
British co-star Damian Lewis was also on the nominee list.

The Arkitekt ... Robert Dietz

DJ/producer talks to Clubz about discovering club music in Frankfurt,
his debut compilation and the challenge of creating an artist album

DJ and producer, Robert Dietz

I STARTED going out in Frankfurt in 1998’ / 99’ and got introduced to most of the electronic music that has influenced me over the last ten years through the clubs and DJ’s of the city.

We started going out at U60311 right after the Omen (Sven Väths legendary Club) closed in '98.
Then we started going to clubs like the old Monza and Robert Johnson etc.
The resident DJ’s at these clubs, plus the owners of Freebase Records, the store where I started buying music from around 2001 / 2002, really educated me in electronic music.
The music these guys sold and played just blew me away.
But Frankfurt is not as it was 10 years ago that’s for sure; the nightlife is not as good anymore.
A lot of creative people moved out of the city.
However there are still some young guns, a new generation who are very creative and have great ideas that go beyond trust trying to be a DJ and producing a little bit of music.
They have formed an entire collective of young people who do art, music and events, often all together in one place, which is really exciting.
But that said; Frankfurt is still not as vibrant as it was ten years ago.
Everything has been focused on Berlin during that time.
It’s sad of course, but we try to keep it up here.
This year I was really pleased to release my very first compilation, Arkitekt 01.
Robert Dietz - CD1 Track Clips
It felt right to do it because as it was the first compilation for both the label and myself, there was a completely blank canvas to do whatever I wanted.
With Arkitekt 01, I tried to create two different CDs, each with their own different vibe, as well as to give an insight into the repertoire of the music I play as a DJ.
On the one hand it fits the club environment, but then there is a flip side for different situations like the afterhours, at home in the morning, at work or in the car etc.
When they came up with the project of the compilation I had a huge amount of tracks already in my head.
There were tones of unreleased and not available records that I wanted to use.
It wasn't so easy to get all of them licensed but we managed the majority.
The final mix was then recorded in my studio, as I wanted to have the possibility to edit the music and arrange it in the perfect way.
It took me two and a half months from the first selection of tracks to the final mix and of course I could have easily spent double the time but the deadline pressure made me work much more efficiently in the end.
Altogether I'm really happy with the success of the compilation and I think the hard work paid off.
The reviews have been very cool and I’ve been really pleased with the reaction in general.
As for an artist album, this is a different and more difficult subject.
Of course I have thought about this, it has been on my radar for two years already but I keep pushing plans back and forth in my head.
But I don’t know if I’ll really get to work on it in the next few months, because it needs so much time to get stuck into it properly.
In the immediate future, I’ve got a track of mine featured on the 5 years of Cécille Anniversary compilation which will be out at the end of January.
I will also be working on new EPs for Desolat and Saved, so there is loads more to come from me in 2013.

Ice day for a climb – daredevils scale frozen crane 1,241ft high

Russian Daredevils

DAREDEVILS risked a frosty end when they climbed a 1,241ft skyscraper covered in ice.

The team surrounding climber Vitaliy Raskalov reached the top of a construction crane on the building after evading violent guards, cameras and sub-zero temperatures.
To pull off the stunt Vitaliy and his companions had to map out the security system to find a way past it and hide from construction workers, who he says will “beat you up really badly” if they catch you.

After observing the site for weeks, the group sneaked inside the building dressed as workers — climbing 75 flights of stairs while hiding behind corners to avoid security patrols.
They then hiked another 104ft into the air when they scaled the iced-over crane at the top while the workers had a shift handover at mid-day.

Mayan doomsday - 12 ways the world could end tomorrow

end of the world

THE Apocalypse could be just a day away – and a Sun investigation can now reveal the top 12 end-of-the world scenarios.

The ancient Mayan civilisation’s 5,125-year-old Long Count calendar ends on Friday December 21 – and doom mongers across the world are predicting global oblivion.
It is not known exactly how the Doomsday will come about but experts have speculated that a deadly alien invasion, catastrophic meteorite collision and even the Large Hadron Collider – just over the English Channel could destroy the Earth as we know it.
Here Alice Everley explores the 12 chilling ways we could perish.
Are we doomed? ... Chitchen Itza in Yucatan penisula of Mexico, once home to the ancient Mayan civilisations
Are we doomed? ... Chitchen Itza in Yucatan penisula of Mexico, once home to the ancient Mayan civilisations
1 METEORITE COLLISION
ASTEROID expert Austen Atkinson says the chances of a serious meteorite strike on Earth are very small but the consequences would be catastrophic. Asteroids near Earth travel at between 20 and 30 kilometres per second, making them both hard to intercept and hard to see. If a 500-metre wide asteroid hits the water, a tsunami several miles in height could wipe out all humanity.
2 FLU PANDEMIC
DEADLY flu pandemics happen irregularly but are very dangerous and destructive. The most serious pandemic in recent history was the ruthless and deadly 1918 Spanish flu. It spread all the way to the Arctic and remote Pacific islands, claiming the lives of as many as 50MILLION people. Scientists believe that the next pandemic is not a matter of if but when.
3 MASS RADIATION EXPLOSION FROM THE SUN
THE sun releases huge amounts of matter and radiation, releasing bursts of solar wind and magnetic fields into space. Those particles cause strong aurorae that we know as Northern Lights in the North Pole and Southern Lights in Antarctica. But intense cosmic rays from a mega-powerful ejection could cause anything from massive long-lasting power outages to fatal exposure to humans by blowing a massive hole in the Ozone layer.

Sun matter ... Northern Lights
4 RELIGIOUS APOCALYPSE
MOST religions predict some variation of a Judgement Day. In Christianity it will supposedly happen after the resurrection of the dead and the second coming of Jesus Christ. In Islam, Yawm ad-Din is believed to be God’s final assessment of humanity, going hand-in-hand with annihilation of all creatures, resurrection of the body and the judgement of all. The exact timescale of the predicted apocalypse is unknown.
5 SUPERVOLCANO
A SUPERVOLCANO is capable of producing an eruption of a scale thousands of times larger than a normal volcano. Continental hotspots conceal huge flat-lying invisible supervolcanoes, where a massive magma pool would be growing underground and could explode. The famous active Yellowstone supervolcano in Idaho is 50 miles across and could cause destruction over a 1,000-mile plus radius - causing potential extinction.

Sleeping monster ... supervolcano
6 CATACLYSMIC POLE SHIFT
SCIENTISTS suggest the Earth had experienced shifts in relative positions of the modern-day geographic locations of the poles. If the poles shifted rapidly, it could lead to cataclysmic events, such as devastating floods and tectonic plate shifts associated with earthquakes and volcano eruptions.
7 ALIEN INVASION
EXTRA-TERRESTRIALS invading our planet have been a constant fear over the last century. Believers suggest aliens have been living among us for a long time, infiltrating the world’s population by pretending to be human. On December 21st doom mongers say we could expect anything from an alien invasion - wiping out mankind or extra-terrestrials depleting the planet’s resources and destroying the Earth.
Alien
Invasion ... aliens
8 NUCLEAR WAR/WW3
THE Cold War is over, but the threat is still very real – think North Korea’s long-range rocket launched just this week heightening international tensions and fears the rogue state could be building up to a nuclear capability.
9 ICE AGE
GRADUAL climate change in the shape of global warming is well-known but an abrupt climate change is a distinct possibility, some scientists say. Global warming may reduce the warm winds blowing from the tropics – causing a big imbalance in temperatures within the Northern hemisphere with the environmental consequences unknown and potentially fatal.
Ice caps
Chilling ... Ice Age
10 RISE OF THE MACHINES
SUPER artificial intelligence with the view to a kill could be hiding among us waiting to strike, some conspiracy theorists have suggested. The chances of a big plot attempting to conceal such technological progress from humans are slim. But let’s face it, if they are capable of taking over the world on December 21st, they wouldn’t be reckless enough for us to notice before they’re all set, would they?
11 TIME TRAVEL ERROR
TIME travel geeks believe someone from the future could have ventured into our past and caused a conflict in the time-space continuum. This, they argue, could be how the Mayans got their mysterious calendar in the first place. The Mayan time-traveller could then have zipped back in time and warned the ancients all about the apocalypse.
12 LARGE HADRON COLLIDER (LHC)
SCIENTISTS from 60 countries have been working 250ft underground on the project trying to recreate conditions after the Big Bang 14billion years ago. Some still fear there is a chance the powerful machine could generate mini black holes which could grow and instantly swallow our planet. They even tried to get the European Court of Human Rights to stop the tests.

Special Ron for United

— Cris & Mourinho head to Old Trafford
— Arsenal get Bayern Munich in last 16

LOOKS WHO'S BACK ... Cristiano Ronaldo and his Real Madrid pals will take on Manchester United

CRISTIANO RONALDO will take on Manchester United after Real Madrid were drawn against his old side in the last 16 of the Champions League.

It will also pit Jose Mourinho against Alex Ferguson in the most mouth-watering tie of the first knock-out round of Europe’s top club competition.
The only other English side ARSENAL will face last season’s beaten finalists Bayern Munich, while CELTIC will take on Italian champions Juventus as they look for a place in the quarter-finals.
Speaking about the draw, United boss Ferguson said: "Well, it’s the tie of the round.
"It’s a great opportunity for our fans to see Cristiano again and also for me to meet up with Jose again — I’ll need to order some good wine!”
Celtic boss Neil Lennon called his side’s draw with Juventus “a beauty” — but very tough.
He said: "Well in terms of glamour it’s a beauty. Juventus are one of the great traditional European teams.
"They’re current Italian champions and finished the group stage very strongly.
"So in terms of glamour it’s great, in terms of qualification it is going to very tough, but it could have been any of the other teams and it would have been just as tough.
“We believe over two games anything is possible. Juventus are littered with world-class stars and have been very consistent over the last 18 months and have got a great winning mentality, but so have we."
Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is optimistic his side can see off Arsenal.
He said: “I think we enter this match as the slight favourites, but we can be making the mistake of underestimating them.
“Arsenal have struggled at times in the league over the last few months, which a look upon the standings in the Premier League will tell you.
"But by no means will this be an easy game for us."
United will play the first leg at the Bernabeu on February 13 with the return at Old Trafford on March 5.
Arsenal will play a week later with the first leg at the Emirates on February 19 and the second at the Allianz Arena in Munich on March 13.
Celtic will take on Juventus at Celtic Park on February 12, with the return leg in Turin on March 6.
Last 16: 1st leg February 12/20; 2nd leg March 5/12
Quarter-finals: 1st leg April 2/3; 2nd leg April 9/10
Semi-finals: 1st leg April 23/24; 2nd leg April 30/May 1

The cherished vintage jewellery was taken when intruders broke into his home.
Two laptops containing sensitive material and an iPad were also swiped.
Police fear he may have been raided because of his job.

Robert, 52, was widowed in September when his author wife Sian Busby lost her five-year battle with lung cancer, aged just 51.
Robert, 52, tweeted today: “Burgled last night. My beloved late wife’s 1920s engagement and wedding rings taken. Naive to think they might turn up, but...”
Raiders forced their way into his house in Muswell Hill, North London, via a back door yesterday.
Robert said some of the material on the laptops had delicate information related to his work.
Det Sgt Gordon McKay, of Haringey CID, said: “He could have been targeted because of what he does for a job.

"It’s something he would have had to tell his employers at the BBC.”
Sian, who was acclaimed for her fiction and non-fiction writing, was diagnosed with lung cancer nearly five years ago.
She was a friend of Robert’s younger sister Juliet and the pair briefly dated when they were studying at different universities.
They then rekindled their relationship in the mid 90s after her first marriage ended.

Apocalypse row: Mayor bans Doomsday believers from 'mystical mountain' ahead of 'end of the world'

Thousands of devotees have flocked to a mountain village in France praying that aliens will rescue them when the apocalypse comes

The aliens are coming: Devotees in pointy hats await doomsday

Police in France have blocked Doomsday followers from reaching a ‘mystical mountain’ which they believe will be the only place to be saved when the world ends tomorrow.
Thousands of devotees have flocked to the tiny village of Bugarach, southern France, praying that aliens will rescue them when the apocalypse comes.
They claim the mountain contains a garage for UFOs that will whisk them to safety ‘in another dimension’ while the rest of the planet perishes.
Bugarach mayor Jean-Pierre Delord today appealed to cult fanatics to stay away from his village, with a population of just 189.
He said: “I am making an appeal to the world - do not come to Bugarach.
“This is no laughing matter. If 10,000 people turn up on December 21, our village will not be able to cope.
After one hippie died climbing the mountain earlier this year, Mr Delord quipped to the French media: “The end of the world came a bit earlier for him than he expected.”

Police and troops have now set up road blocks to stop hippies scaling the summit - and declared the zone a no-go area for five days from December 19.
Regional prefect Eric Freysselinard said: “I have issued an order barring anyone from climbing the mountain.
“And those trying to get into the village will be stopped and asked what their business is.
He said: “Bugarach and the mountain will then remain closed off until two days after the world is supposed to end.”
Hippies flooding into Bugarach are convinced the area has been selected by aliens as the only place to survive in the run up to Doomsday - when the Mayan calendar’s 5,125-year cycle finishes.

Earlier this year, France’s Mission for the Fight against Sects also placed Bugarach under scrutiny due to concerns over possible mass suicides.
And it warned people in a report not to be taken in by ‘New Age clap-trap’ being peddled by cult leaders.
Their report also stressed that December 21, 2012, would be the 183rd time the world had been predicted to end in the last 2,000 years.
Local residents are angry at having their peace disturbed.
"What is going on here is the creation of an urban legend," fumed resident Michele Pous, who blamed those who spread internet rumours.
In the UK, hundreds of people have already converged on Stonehenge for an "End of the World" party that coincides with the Winter Solstice.
Arthur Uther Pendragon, Britain's best-known druid, said he was anticipating a much larger crowd than usual at Stonehenge this year.

But he doesn't agree that the world is ending, noting that he and fellow druids believe that things happen in cycles.
"We're looking at it more as a new beginning than an end," he said. "We're looking at new hope."
Some Serbs are saying to forget that sacred mountain in the French Pyrenees.
The place to go will be Mount Rtanj, a pyramid-shaped peak in Serbia already drawing cultists.
A local legend has it that the mountain once swallowed an evil sorcerer who will be released on doomsday in a ball of fire.
The inside of the mountain will then become a safe place to hide as the sorcerer goes on to destroy the rest of the world.
In the meantime, some old coal mine shafts have been opened up as safe rooms for the dozens who have arrived already.
"We got calls from as far away as Holland from people trying to seek shelter," said Vlada Minic, a local villager.

In China, a fringe Christian group has been spreading rumours about the world's impending end, prompting authorities to arrest more than 500 people this week and seize leaflets, video discs, books and other material.
Those detained are reported to be members of the group Almighty God, also called Eastern Lightning, which preaches that Jesus has reappeared as a woman in central China.
Authorities in the province of Qinghai say they are waging a "severe crackdown" on the group, accusing it of attacking the Communist Party and the government.
In Russia, a museum is offering salvation from the world's end in Stalin's underground bunker in central Moscow.
The charge is £920 - with a 50 per cent refund if nothing happens.
The bunker, 65 metres below ground, was designed to withstand a nuclear attack.
Now home to a small museum, it has an independent electricity supply, water and food - but no more room, because the museum has already sold out all 1,000 tickets.
The last time the world was due to end was May 21, 2011, according to a prediction by US-based cult Rapture.
Its leader Harold Camping said after the apocalypse failed to happen that he was ‘flabbergasted’ that the world was still there.
